Tried to make some proper four by four synth pop. It turned out a bit funny, as I dipped into my voice and noise sample banks for mild seasoning. Still, it bounces along nicely, right?

I'm working on a half hour live set on the Casio VZ-1 for the Ilmiö Festival in July, so I'm playing one every day. This one might work. It varies between hyperactive skwonk and playful tiptoes.

Tracks 241-300 of my little project to build ten thousand tracks, each a minute long, from nothing but recordings of my own voice. Any transformations and effects are allowed, so it's not getting monotonous. Yet. I will probably be a babbling lunatic around track #5,000 and every piece will be just "lal lal lal laaa blub" by then. Quite happy with this set. I learned something with each one, the loops are more relaxed/messy than before and I had some nice, new ideas every now and then.

Tracks 181 - 240 of my project to build ten thousand one minute tracks using just my own voice as material. All manipulation of this voice data is permitted, so I still have a whole universe of possibilities to explore. Funny. I distinctly remember being depressed out of my skull while making the first half of these, but they sound utterly relaxed. I guess making music is my happy place where reality does not intrude.

Ohikuolija by Meisselschieber (Rene Kita and Oorlog Braatö) was first released in 2010 by the legendary 267 Lattajjaa label. Improvisation and collages built from these. The emptiness of being full with everything. Nervous relaxation.

Tracks 121 - 180 of my project to build ten thousand one minute tracks using just my own voice as material. All manipulation of this voice data is permitted, so I still have a whole universe of possibilities to explore. This hour is as varied as the previous ones. I have a horror of doing the same thing over and over again, so, usually, every track tends to be the opposite of the previous one. I like manic variety...

Hour 2 of my mildly insane project to make ten thousand one minute long tracks with only my voice as material. For some unaccountable reason, these tracks sound relaxed and happy. I blame my antidepressants. They are interfering with my Trüe Artist's Tortüred Soül. Alas and fie! Tools used: Audacity, LMMS and Schism Tracker (Yay for the 90s and thousands of keyboard shortcuts.) Towards the end of this I discovered Korean pansori singing and tried to imitate it with rather silly results.

I honestly don't know why noise musicians haven't used violins for their heinous purposes. Nothing acoustic produces quite such an array of horrid screeches and yowls as a maltreated violin. Here's a set of layered and chopped violin recordings that should please any aficionado of aural aggravation.

Instead of waiting for inspiration to strike, I am now building a one minute piece every day - with just my own voice for material. Here is the first hour. Just 9,940 left to do. What fun. No, really. And by the way, I am participating in CDR-DAY. On 28th November, 2015,. the first 17 who email me your postal address at my.name at gmail will get a CDR with a unique painted cover mailed to you. The mailing will include a return address, so you could mail me money or music or whatever you feel...

This is a test of my theory that, to achieve that delicious impression of effortlessness, one should perhaps put as little effort into it as possible. 'Juosten kustu' is Finnish for slapdash or haphazard or, literally translated, 'urinated while running'. Finnish is always good for a delicate turn of phrase... All pieces here were made in fifteen minutes: Open randomly chosen audio file, cut out 5-7 samples, slam them into LMMS, the Linux MultiMedia Studio (excellent software, haven't even...

Old man goes for a long walk, muttering to himself, listening to a Librivox audiobook ( The False Faces by Louis Joseph Vance - read by William Tomcho) and thinks of his music projects, new and old. Everything is music - the sound of steps and cars, the wind blowing into the mic, the narrator etc. It all forms a whole. In Finnish: Vanha mies käy pitkällä kävelyllä, mutisee itsekseen, kuuntelee Librivox-äänikirjaa ( The False Faces by Louis Joseph Vance - lukijana William Tomcho) ja...

A little experiment to see whether one can make music that sounds simultaneously relaxed and psychotic. I think I nailed it. Minimal equipment, just voice and a Metal Zone pedal.

Improvised guitar and voice. Pardon the bilingual gag. In Japanese, a 'hikikomori' is a shut-in, a person who refuses to leave his or her room. In Finnish, 'hiki' = sweat, 'kamari' = chamber, 'kamarimusiikki' = chamber music. So this is sweat chamber music, galloping madness from a man trapped in his home.

When a white man gets the urge to do blues, the result is deeply mauve. As I'm not African-American, I don't even try to imitate the masters. Improvised guitar and wordless vocals. And so mauving it'll make your heart quake.

An experimental music diary. The plan is to add one piece of music each day of the next year. Improvisation, collage music, songs, tampered environmental recordings or whatever strikes my fancy that day. Song descriptions: 1. Mumbledoodledoo: Standard loopstation doodle, adding voices to the loop until stuffed. 2. Not Samba Acoustic guitar and voice improvisation. 3. Leftover Stew: Looped and layered remix mess of recordings left over the previous two days. 4. Library Noise: Samples recorded at...

A blind date improv gig at Juri Nummelin's party, October 6 2012. Apart from a few messages beforehand ("I'm going to rap on Sigmund Freud's text Jenseits des Lustprinzips. How about you do some text, too?"), Rene Kita and Aju Heino had not even heard of each other before starting their instruments. They were formally introduced in front of the audience.

Every proper improv recording must be accompanied by a club mix people can dance to, right? Well, I hope you have some advanced moves as this might be slightly challenging.

A voice and a guitar, the classic way of sharing passion and desperation, as in flamenco or the blues. Now, the passions of a white man living in Finland are never going to be as essential as those of a gypsy in Spain or a black man in America. That's why I call it the mauve... Listen in a small room with the lights off for proper claustrophobic impact.

Köntsä is a newly coined (on the ooooo mailing list, not by me) Finnish translation for 'drone'. This is my impression of what köntsä might sound like: an hour-long slab of shuddering sound. Created using purely malicious negligence: I took ten improvised recordings of mine, between 3 and 17 minutes long and stretched each to one hour using Audacity's basic Change Speed/tempo plug-ins, which leave plenty of ugly digital distortion artefacts. Then I piled these on top of each other. Voilà,...

If the noise genre had a ballad variant, it might sound like this. True to type, the emotions expressed here are the pain, fear and self-pity of a trapped animal rather than anything worth dressing in pretty words. Dedicated to Ami Yoshida (my favorite singer) and Varissuo (my home suburb, not the band).

An hour long mash mix of public domain audio files found on archive.org. Created by running five XMMS media players simultaneously with randomised playlists through the collection. The appended raw_material.html file gives a listing of the files I used. All their authors have my utmost gratitude. The richness of this floating cloud of chaos is entirely due to their creativity. I simply could not resist taking advantage of their generosity in putting their work in the public domain. This is the...

Length: 12:59 minutes. The Rational and Its Double A recitation of René Descartes' Meditations Metaphysiques, accompanied by acoustic guitar and the squeaking of rubber rats, at Kiasma, Finland's national museum of modern art. I got there rather through the back door. The yearly Pixelache video art festival invited the Placard internet festival organizers to set up in the hallway, and since I had participated at previous Placards, they asked me, as well. Now that I've performed in this high...

Length: 8:06 minutes. "Heinon Keijo, moi!" A gig at Vadelma-Klubi in Helsinki. Standing in the middle of a crowd in a dark passage playing electric guitar on a 10 watt amp and screaming, wearing black clothes, a long black wig and black sunglasses. A tribute to Keiji Haino. Recorded with a cheap stereo mike on minidisk, transferred via analog line to computer.

A performance at an improvised music club arranged by Tommi Keränen (mad props, great venue!), stomping on a tin sheet of metal with tap dancing shoes and screaming my head off, trying to switch rapidly between emotional tones and volumes. Or, in other words, some nutcase stomping and yelling until he's exhausted...in about 8 minutes... Warning! Extreme variations of volume. Turn it down at first, or my first scream will blow your ears.
